"Father of Clyde Culp, US Army World War I"

Shared note

Hi Jerry-

The Joeseph Culp you mention is my great grandfather. My grandfather was
Joeseph's second from the youngest son, BURREN CULP, b. 1892; d. 1976. My
father died a few years ago. Burren was only married a couple of years and my
dad was their only child.

I also know Ocie's family fairly well- I visited Uncle Will Culp as a child
and remember Amanda.

Of all the Culp's, we were probably closest to OCIE CULP and EDGAR SMITH's
daughter Vernell. The Smith's raised my father after Burren divorced as he had
to work in the labor camps.

I appreciate you sending all the line (below). I have taken the Culp's back to
the South Carolina era in the early 1700's, but it is unconfirmed. With some
speculation tho, we can place Neely as the offspring of Timothy Culp. As you
know, Joe Culp's wife was a cousin and Fannie's grandfather was Henry Culp Jr.

Before Will Culp died we tried to get confirmation of some of the Neely Culp
story. He did know it- but was too ill to respond to the letter. I remember
Amanda wrote back tho.

Riley Culp's wife (another of the brothers) was our Aunt Artie. I visited with
her a couple of times. She recalled the Neely Culp story with some
embellishments. Also heard her husband talk about the terrible headaches Joe
Culp's wife had. Makes we wonder if she died from a cerebral aneurysm or
something. I don't know.

I am going on a business trip to Wash DC tomorrow and I teach here at the Univ
with a lecture to give in the morning so can't really write too much. Would
like to hear from you again, I think I have alot of pictures and such you
might be interested in if you can download on your end. I don't know what web
site you looked at, but can probably share a bit more. We went back to Neely's
place some time ago and to the church where he donated some land and provided,
presumably, slave labor or whatever.

Keep in touch. Sometimes I see email better at kculp@yahoo.com so it doesn't
get mixed up with all of my univ email.
