Mae E. Orr, lived with her husband, John J. Ivy, near the present Mr. Howard Ivy farm on Brooksie Thompson road in Decatur County. John J. served in the Civil War. While he was away in service, she hid meat, cows and horses in the woods on the farm to keep Yankee soldiers from taking them. Each day, she would go out into the woods to tend the livestock and to cut off meat for family meals.
