CROSSING THE DARK RIVER, Henderson County, Tennessee, Obituaries 1827-1950, Brenda Kirk Fiddler, Lexington, Tennessee 1999, page 171 (Clipping, July 1920) Aged and Highly Respected Citizen Goes to His Reward: J. J. (Uncle Jack) Tucker, aged 94 years, 3 months and 26 days, died at his home 2 1/2 miles north of Scotts Hill Saturday, July 3, 1920, at 10 o'clock, p.m., with the infirmities of old age. He was born March 7, 1826, son of George Washington Tucker and Millie Davis Tucker and was married to Sarah Jane Tuten, August 6, 1840. To this union were born nine children, one dying in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Frank Murphy, died about thirteen years ago. Arabell, another daughter, who spent all her life at home with her father, died May 14, 1920. Mr. Tucker's wife died June 2, 1917, at the age of 88 years , 10 months and 28 days. He is survived by six boys, as follows: J. F. of Sardis, A. L. of Cedar Grove, G. R. of Scotts Hill, C. W. of Scotts Hill, J. M. of Decaturville and L. B. of Saltillo, who were all with him in his last hours. All was done that medical skill and living hands could do to alleviate his suffering but to no avail. He professed faith in Christ in his early life and lived a constant member of the Church until death. This is a record that is rarely surpassed. Just think, he spent about 75 years in the service of God and the same church. He never seemed to grow tired of his service. He also has a family record that is rarely surpassed. At his death he had 6 living children, 27 grandchildren, 576 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, making a total of 97.

He was a faithful husband, loving father, devoted brother, kind hearted neighbor, true friend and a devoted Christian. He filled a large place in many hearts. He will be sadly missed. Uncle Jack is done with the troubles of this life which he always bore patiently. The body was carried to Lafferty graveyard in Decatur County and laid to rest by the side of his wife. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Flatt of Scotts Hill.-V. F. Grissom
