Reported Aug. 12, 1919 to have only 1 arm.

In a letter dated May 13, 1922
Washington Gardner, Commissioner, Bureau of Pensions, Washington D.C.
Letter states that James deserted and that he never received a honorable discharge and that he could not draw a pension till this had been removed from his record. James states that at time of discharge and 2 months prior he was in a Federal Hospital at Camp Davis Miss. He gives this as the reason he did not receive a honorable discharge and denies that he deserted.

Reported as being 88 years old in 1922

James lost his arm in a sawmill accident after the war.
