Jonathan W. Fagg was born in 1821 in Rutherford County, Tenn., a son of Charles and Winifred (Welborn) Fagg. He died in the 1890s in Henderson or Carroll County, Tenn. About 1845 he married Eleanor J. She was born about 1822 in Kentucky. She was living in 1900 in Carroll County, Tenn.

In 1849 Jonathan settled in Montgomery County, Indiana, where he was a practicing physician. He was a Democrat and member of the Christian Church. At the 1850 census, he was listed as a school teacher, age 28, born in Tennessee, his land valued at $1,500, with Eleanor J., 27; Nancy W., 4; and Frances M., 3, all born in Kentucky. At the 1870 census, he was listed at Whitesville, with wife Ella; Charles, 20; Susan, 16; John, 13; Virginia, 11; and Charlotte, 9. Susan taught school at New Ross in 1874 and taught a Sunday School class at New Ross Christian Church. At the 1880 census, Jonathan was listed as a physician in the town of Monon, Monon Township, White County, Ind., age 59, born in Tennessee, father born in Virginia, mother born in Georgia, with wife Eleanor, 58, born in Kentucky, parents born in Virginia; and children Sue, 25, a school teacher; John W., 22, a laborer; Virginia, 20; and Charlotte, 18, all born in Missouri.

In the 1890 Special Census of Union Veterans, Dr. Jonathan W. Fagg was listed at Sardis Post Office in Henderson County, Tenn., suffering from paralysis and deafness, having served as a private in Company H, 101st Illinois Infantry Regiment, 1862-1865. At the 1900 census, Eleanor was living with her son Charles in Caroll County, Tenn., listed as born in February 1822 in Kentucky, her father born in Virginia and her mother in Kentucky.

Jonathan W. and Eleanor J. Fagg had [eight] children:
i. Nancy W. Fagg, born about 1845 in Kentucky.
ii. Frances M. Fagg, born about 1847 in Kentucky.
iii. Mildred L. Fagg, born about July and died in October 1849 in Montgomery County, Ind., District 76, of consumption, age three months.
iv. Charles S. Fagg, born in October 1850 in Montgomery County, Ind.; living in 1900 in Carroll County, Tenn.
v. Susan Fagg, born about 1854 in Montgomery County, Ind.
vi. John W. Fagg, born about 1857 in Montgomery County, Ind. In March 1882

John started a drugstore in Monon Township, White County, Ind., with [his father] physician J.W. Fagg. John W. Fagg was listed at the 1900 census in Center Township, Indianapolis, Marion County, Ind., born in September 1857 in Missouri, father shown as born in Kentucky and mother in Indiana, with wife Margaret, born in January 1871 in Tennessee to parents born there, married four years with no children.

Charles Fagg's will

Mr. Charles Fagg being sick informed us the under subscribers that he wished his wife Winiford Fagg to keep his property together, and take care of his son Jonathan W. Fagg, also if his wife should be delivered of a child within nine months for her and them to have an equal share of his property, and wished his children to be educated out of their own parts, if they will take it kindley as their share of property will afford and if any of the childrens property remains when they come of age to be divided off to them.
