Mary was born the daughter of David Montgomery in 1810 prior to David and his first wife moving to Decatur Co. TN. She apparently followed David to Decatur Co. TN from South Carolina between 1834 and 1839. She was never married but had three children in her household in the 1850 census in Decatur Co. TN. The family tradition with her descendants is that the father of the oldest child, Joe Calvin was a Haney man and the father of the two younger children, Martha and Robert was an Eason man.
Mary received a land grant for 200 acres in Decatur County, Tennessee in 1853 and died prior to the 1860 census. After Mary died, Joe Calvin lived with Montgomery relatives until sometime after 1860 when he set out on his own. Robert is believed to have lived with his father and taken the name Eason and later married a Johnson lady. Robert Eason is also found living with Montgomery relatives in the 1880 census. It is not known what happened to Martha but she may have lived with Montgomery relatives for a while.
