Adkisson, J. A. (The Lexington Progress, February 8, 1924) Dr. J. A. Adkisson, son of Rev. I. S. and Mary Adkisson, was born in the fourth district of Decatur County, June 1878, and died at San Antonio, Texas, January 17th, 1924, aged 46 years. His parents moved to the first district of this county when he was quite young and he remained with them on the farm until about grown. He then went to Texas and remained three years before returning and studying medicine under Dr. J. F. Adyelott. He was graduated from the University of Tennessee. He located at Wildersville, and there practiced medicine for a while. He was married to Miss Flora Orr of Wildersville and to this union four children were born, three of whom survive. Later he moved to Texas, and while living there he took postgraduate courses in New York, London, Paris and Berlin, receiving diplomas from each of the schools. Returning two years before the World War, he located at Beaumont, Texas, and later moved to San Antonio, where he formed partnership with his brother, Dr. Jim Adkisson and remained there until his death. He was a member of the Christian Church and a Master Mason. His death just in the prime of life is deplored by his many boyhood friends.
