Raney, Granville M. Granville was born August 27, 1848 in Decatur County. His father, James H. Raney, was one of the pioneers, having settled here when it was Perry County. He was a native of Stewart County, married to Amanda Bryant who was born in NC, but came to Decatur County when 12 years. To their union 12 children were born. Those living at this writing were : Nancy who married a Harrell; Margurite who married W. D. Lacy of Decatur County; Ann E. who married G. W. White ; James H. ; John David who married Sallie Luton ; and Barbara who married B.A. Tucker. Granville married February 15, 1876, to Lucy Jackson of Decatur County. They were the parents of 5 children : Maggie born November 11, 1876 ; Willie J. born February 9, 1879 ; Sallie born April 29, 1881 ; James born May 22, 1883 ; and Edgar born June, 1886.
