Samuel Brashear Sr. & Ann Jones Samuel Brashear, Sr., The Maryland Carpenter, son of Robert Brashier III, the Improvident, was born 1673, very probably at "Upper Bennett" in Calvert County, MD. Samuel died between June 1 (date of will) and August 27, 1740 (opening of probate), in Prince George's County, MD. About 1793, he married Ann Jones, daughter of William Jones, Jr. and his wife Dorothy (nee Cager). Ann was a sister of Mary Jones, who m. Benjamin Brashear, Samuel's brother. The two family groups were, therefore, "double first cousins": their fathers were brothers and their mothers were sisters. In a family already prone to using the same names over and over again, the close ties thus created produced even more confusions, especially with the given names John and William. Samuel and Benjamin lived the whole of their adult lives on adjoining portions of "Cuckhold's Delight", which they got from their father-in-law. Their brother, Robert IV, also lived in the neighborhood for a considerable time and registered the births of some of his children at St. Barnabas Church. When more than one of the brothers gave a child the same given name, they had to start using some phrase to distinguish between them, such as "Senior" and "Junior", thought some of the children did not carry the same given name as their father. - A Brashear(s) Family History, Descendants of Robert and Benois Brasseur: Vol. 2:
