Daniel was joining his uncle David B. Funderburk who had made the same move some time before 1837. David B. lived his final years in the household of his nephew. Since David B. had no surviving children, Daniel is probably the progenitor of all Funderburks born in Decatur Co. TN. Daniel A. is sometimes referred to as David A. as in the 1880 census, when David B. Funderburk, uncle, is living in the David S. Funderburk household. I need further research to establish his proper name.
