The 1830 census shows: 1 male under 5 1 male 20 to 30 - Asa 2 females under 5 1 female 20 to 30 From the research of David Donahue Asa Rushing was born in Cherah Hill, Anson Co., NC. He died in Decatur Co. TN and is buried in New Hope Cemetery, Decatur Co. TN. Asa Rushing visited Perry County, Tennessee, in 1824, but returned to Anson County, North Carolina, where he married Nancy G. Hendricks. In 1827 he moved to Perry County (later Decatur County), Tennessee, and settled on the south side of Beech River about three miles west of Decaturville. He is listed in the 1850 census as owning 400 acres of land in Decatur County. He is known to have been a surveyor. He was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church. He married Nancy G. Hendricks (1803-1875), possibly a daughter of Hillary Hendrick, 1825, in Anson Co., NC. Nancy died in Shelby Co. TX. |
