Jerry L. Ivey, PARSONS Funeral services for Jerry Lynn Ivey, age 59, of Parsons will be conducted at 2:00 pm today, July 21, 2003 in the Chapel of Decatur County Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Drum officiating. Interment will follow at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery near Decaturville. Mr. Ivey passed away Saturday at Henderson County Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident. Jerry Lynn began his professional career in education as a Teacher then became a Coach and later a Principal. In August, 1976, he took a position with James W. Ayers, who was building Decatur County Manor. He became the Administrator of the Manor and in 1977 became the Director of Operations for Ayers and Associates. In 1985, Ayers and Associates merged with American Health Centers, Inc. and he became the President of the Tennessee Division and was responsible for twenty-five facilities. In 1987, Mr. Ivey became the President of American Health Centers and later Chairman of the Board in 1998. In 2000, after twenty-four plus years with the corporation and its predecessor Ayers and Associates, Mr. Ivey retired. Much of the corporations culture and success is a direct result of Mr. Ivey's selfless dedication to the job, perseverance, and strong leadership. Retirement did not last long for Mr. Ivey. In June, 2001, he along with D.J. Brewer purchased Brewer Funeral Home in Parsons, currently Decatur County Funeral Home. Jerry Lynn Ivey spent a lifetime serving others. His dedication, commitment, and integrity are qualities that have been and will continue to be a guiding light for those who knew him. Mr. Ivey was preceded in death by his parents, Walter S. and Willie Mae Thompson Ivey, a brother, Wayne Ivey, and a son, Chris Ivey. He is survived by is wife, Mary Ivey of Parsons; one daughter, Jennifer Kennedy and husband Johnny of Decaturville; three step-daughters, and spouses, Lisa Davis and Mark of Parsons, Gina Maiden and George of Memphis and Tracey Smith of Memphis. Other survivors include three grandchildren, Logan Watkins, Ivey Watkins, and Rylan Kennedy and eight step-grandchildren, Jim Davis, Ryan Davis, Leslie Davis, Jared Davis, Sarah Maiden, Mary Grace Maiden, Laken Lomax, and Sydney Smith. Serving as pallbearers are, James Earl Ivey, Johnny Kennedy, Mark Davis, George Maiden, James W. Ayers, Danny Graves, Reeder Martin, and Jim Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Davis, Ryan Davis and Tyrone Sparks. Visitation will resume this morning at 10:00 AM and will continue until time for the service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Chris Ivey Memorial Scholarship Fund.
