The Florence Times, Florence, AL, July 6, 1943, page 2 J. R. BUTLER, 73, IS LAID TO REST Funeral Services Held on Monday Afternoon James Russell Butler, aged 73, passed away Saturday midnight, at his home, 511 Stevenson Street, Florence, after a several weeks illness. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Butler, four sons, Aubry and Westley of Florence, Clarke, of Cloverdale and Pat, of Dayton, O.; four daughters, Mrs. Louis Barnes and Mrs. J. T. Rickard, of Florence; Mrs. Ed Montgomery, of Iron City, Tenn., and Mrs. W. F. Ward[Nard], of Cloverdale, and one sister, Mrs. Frances Handley, of Texarkana, Tex. The funeral was held Monday at 2 p. m., from the Methodist Church at Crystal Springs in Wayne County, Tenn. with Rev. J. D. Reid, of the Church of the Nazarene, Florence, officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery, Fielder in charge. Pallbearers were Paul Barnes, F. E. Rickard, R. H. Wilson, Eugene McCluskey, Bill Edwards, Mr. Fortenberry and Mr. Rideout. Railroad Cemetery by Ed Byler The real name for the church and cemetery is Pleasant Spring United Methodist Church and Cemetery. Everyone in my family always simply called it Railroad. The church was begun in 1892 when the old Mt. Heber (Whitten's Chapel) Church split in a dispute over an illegitimate child (or so I was told). The land for the church and cemetery was given by Warren Christopher House and his wife Mary Haddock House. If you are coming from Florence, AL, take AL 17 (Chisholm Road) north from Florence. This changes into TN 13 at the state line. The church and cemetery are located northeast of the intersection of TN 227 (East) with TN 13. You can see both the church and the cemetery from 13, they are just off the highway. If you are coming through Waynesboro, TN, take TN 13 South through Collinwood then about 13 miles south of Collinwood to the intersection with TN227 East. The 1880 Lauderdale Co. census shows Belzora, age 12 and Russel, age 9. If this record is correct, they are not twins and Belzora did not die before she was one year old.
