"Pvt. Edgar Frank Sewell was killed in action during a World War II battle in France on August 16, 1944. "He was born and reared in Decatur County." ["Paths to Freedom," Parsons News Leader, 3 July 1991, p. 6] Edgar Frank Sewell, born March 27, 1909. Served in the U. S. Army in Maint. Co., 66th Armd. Regt., in WWII as tank driver. He saw duty in Africa and Sicily. Achieved the rank of private specialist 4. He was killed in action in France Aug. 16, 1944. His parents received word that their son was wounded in France and carried to the base hospital in England. He was brought back to Decatur County and was buried in Decaturville Cemetery. Edgar was the son of Clara Brasher and Charlie Sewell. His father served 14 months in the U. S. Army in 1918 and overseas for 10 months in the Infantry. Submitted by Mary Ruth White. |
