Charles served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He enlisted in the on September 11, 1947 and re-enlisted September 11, 1950. He was stationed in Nagasaki, Japan for over 3 years (Jan 1948- May 14, 1951). He worked in radar mostly but also worked as a mechanic.  He was honorably discharged on Sept 10, 1953 as USAF Airman First Class after serving 6 years (Sept 11, 1947-Sept 10, 1950 & Sept 11, 1950-Sept 10, 1953 during the beginning of the Cold War and being discharged after the Korean War had ended that July 27, 1953. His serving in Japan during wartime, while nuclear bombs were being tested, is believed (as stated in medical documents) to have caused the AML (Leukemia) cancer that he succumbed to on December 24, 2012.

Mr. Charles H. Butler, a resident of West Babylon, Long Island, died Monday, December 24th. He was 83.

Survivng is his beloved wife, Ann; his daughters Carol, Sharon, Linda, Donna and Susan, and his son, Charlie. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Thursday, from 2-4:30 and 7-9:30 p.m. Funeral Prayers will be offered at the funeral home on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale.
