May Have been born "Alonzo", called Lonnie. Compiled by Howard Butler, transcribed by Ginny Pitts, sources: Ina Butler Sanders Abernathy; Zola Butler Wells; Graves at Bosley Cemetery. He was a farmer and cotton gin operator. They lived in Brazos and Bosley area (near Santo, TX), and later moved to the Lone Camp Community (about 1920). "Our family was a musical family--much singing with musical instruments. The old family organ (pedals-bellows type) was deteriorating and Olen restored it completely. It is now a prized piece of furniture in their home. Our father was an enthusiastic gospel singer and our mother was a music teacher. Attending church was an important part of our home life and we children were never allowed to miss services. Dad was totally deaf in his latter years and did not attend often, but he certainly insisted that the rest of us be punctual. Our mother was a strong Christian and believed in tithing. There was not much cash during those years so she would keep separate the eggs laid on Sunday and sell them for cash to give to the church. Memories like these represent a priceless heritage for which we are grateful." |
