John Walker was a school teacher at Dunbar in Decatur Co. TN. He may have taught at the Clardy School which was located near the Clardy (now Keeton) Springs. He married Catharine ? and they had two daughters, Nancy and Martha. Nancy married William David Kelley who was involved with the Dunbar Cotton Gin and later operated cotton gins in Sallisaw, OK and Stillwell, OK. Martha married Robert James Montgomery and they had eleven children. John married Lucy Montgomery after Catharine's death some time after 1859. Lucy married Capt. Byrd Newman after John's death about 1867. In the 1860 census, S. Montgomery, 24, inmate; E. J. Walker, 21, inmate and school teacher; M. M. Walker, age 19, school teacher; and J. C. Montgomery, 26, day laborer are all living in the John W. Walker household. Source: 1860 census, Calvin Kelley |
