ABOUT THE AUTHOR - Virginia Goff Butler was born to William McKinley and Lavonia Waller Goff on November 25, 1918. She attended Juno (Henderson County) and Spring Creek (Madison County) grade schools, Lexington High School, and the University of Tennessee Jr. College at Martin. She graduated with a B. S. degree from Bethel College, McKenzie Tennessee in 1965 and received a Masters Degree from Memphis State University in 1964.

After teaching in elementary schools in the city and county systems, she served as principal of South Haven School for 8 years, then taught 12th grade English at Lexington High School for 8 years. After retiring in 1981, she became Director of Adult Education in Henderson County. She taught forty years in Henderson County all together.

She has two sons: Dr. Ralph Butler married to Judy Malone, and Tommy butler married Ann Morgan. She also has three grandsons: Dr. Jon Butler, Steven Butler married Michele Galbraith, and Adam Butler all of Nashville.

She has one brother, Frank Goff of Chesterfield married Nell Farlow, and one sister, Marie Goff Adams married Bill Adams.

She also has two nephews: Jim Adams of Durham, North Carolina, and Jeff Adams of Nashville married Karis Watson.
