Hiram Lacy was born in 1811 in Anson Co. NC. He moved along with his father and mother and their family to Perry (now Decatur) Co. TN around 1814. He married Nancy Stegall around 1830. The Stegall's had also moved from Anson Co. NC to Perry Co. TN about the same time as the Lacy's. Hiram and Nancy raised their family in Perry and later Decatur Co. TN except for a short time in Mississippi and Hardin Co. around 1835. They had 10 known children. Hiram was the first sheriff of Decatur Co. TN when it was formed in 1846. He also served as the second circuit court clerk replacing David B. Funderburk after his term as sheriff. After Hiram's terms in public office, he was a farmer, land owner and slave owner in District 4 of Decatur Co. TN. It is not known where Hiram died and is buried. Some researchers say Fulton Co. KY while others say it was near his home in Decatur Co. TN. Hiram is the ancestor of all the known Lacy's in Decatur Co. TN.
