Carson, CO; October 1951 - January 1953, Camp McGill, Japan. Discharged January 23, 1953 with rank of sergeant (E-5).

Thomas is the son of P. W. and Lula A. Shelby. Married Ruth Eloise Hayes and has three children: Mark T. Shelby, Keith A. Shelby, and Melanie Ruth Overall.

Covington - THOMAS OBED SHELBY, 78, retired U. T. Extension Agent, passed away Friday, October 31, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 2 at the Covington Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, November 1 at the funeral home. Mr. Shelby was a member of the First Baptist Church in Covington. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Eloise Hayes Shelby; one daughter, Melanie (Ben) Overall of Covington; two sons, Mark Shelby and Keith (Barbara) Shelby, both of Salem, IN; three brothers, Edward Shelby of Selmer, TN, Paulus Shelby of Jackson, TN and Titus Shelby of Jackson, WY; two sisters, Grapel Davis of Darden, TN and Jean Hensley of Hohenwald, TN and four grandchildren, Madison Overall, Brandon Overall, Claire Shelby and Evan Shelby. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael L. Shelby. The family request that any memorials be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
