JAMES L. MARTIN, SR. On June 19, 1931, at Casey Kentucky, he was united in marriage to Esther L. Butler and to this union seven children were born. A daughter, Sarah Katherine, preceded him in passing as have his parents, and a brother, Mack Martin. In 1955 the family moved to the Cabool area where he was engaged in mechanic work until ill health forced him to retire. Many years ago he became a Christian and united with the Old Republican Assembly of God Church near Union City, Tenn. Later, he transfered his membership to the Assembly of God Church of Cabool where it has remained. In recent years he became very active in ministerial work and was pastor of the Tyrone Assembly of God Church for awhile. He was a good Christian husband and father who made many friends wherever he went and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves his wife, Esther, of Route 2, Cabool, three sons: James L. Martin III, Granite City, Ill., Gerald T. with the U. S. Navy at Newport, Rhode Island and Charles Edward Martin, Sr. of Cabool; three daughters, Mrs. Margie Marie Owens, Cabool, Mrs. Alta Virginia Satterfield, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Joyce Elaine Perry, Willow Springs, Mo., a brother John T. Martin, Union City, Tenn., two sisters: Mrs. Willie Mae Dotson, Poplar Bluff, Mo., Mrs. Hazel Willis, Bruceton, Tenn., 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also a host of other relatives and many friends and neighbors will miss him. Services were 2 p.m. Saturday in Elliott-Gentry Chapel with Rev. Derrel Friend officiating. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery. |
