Shared note
|
Porch furniture mad of willow with the bark on it decorated the long front porch of the front of the house. Huge high head boards for the beds was in the bedrooms, with a hat tree in the hallway of the house with a red fox stole with it's head and fee on it. It was always draped on the hall tree. Mama Lancaster had the fox stole made for her daughter Julia. There was a seat in the hall made from a bed used for seating when the large family had a reunion. There was a pie safe in the kitchen. Most of the time when you opened the tin doors, the aroma of a homemade pie would linger long after the doors was closed. Papa Lancaster chewed tobacco, but only one kind. It was twisted tobacco shaped like the figure 8. Aunt Julia gave Mama Lancaster a Persian cat one time named Mary. Jim Frank McBride informed me that Persian cats were still at the old home place at this time. Sweet peas, holly hocks, roses, and big shade trees grace the yard with their beauty. There was a branch at the barn yard with the clearest water I ever saw and cold as ice probably at one time it served as a refrigerator. Papa and Mama Lancaster probably never failed to vote. It was a privilege indeed for them to have that opportunity to exercise their right. One was a strong Republican, the other a strong Democrat. So whether you are a Democrat or a Republican you had strong ties dating back to Mama and Papa Lancaster.
Lancaster Services Held Thursday Services for Robert Lee Lancaster, 95, were held at the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Thursday at 2:00 p. m. with Rev. Robert Saywell officiating. Wednesday after being seriously ill for three months. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Finis Boggan of Bath Springs and Julia F. Stephens of Detroit, Mich.; two sons, Curry Lancaster of Camden and Grady Lancaster of Bath Springs; 23 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. |
