Martha E. Butler was born about 1844 in Alabama as the oldest daughter and third child of James M. Butler and Sarah Crawford. She moved to Winston Co. MS around 1847 along with the James M. Butler family. Martha's Mother died after her brother, William was born in 1852. In 1857, Martha moved with her father and step-mother Amanda Bishop to Walker Co. AL and she lived there until at least 1860. Research is continuing to learn more about Martha E. Butler. Source: 1850 census, Winston Co. MS; 1860 census, Walker Co. AL. |
