Shared note

As early as 1823, Absolem Stegall received a Tennessee Land Grant in what was then known as Perry County, now Decatur County. His descendants played a prominent role in the early history of Decatur County as land owners, farmers, lawyers, and politicians. His son John served in the legislature during reconstruction days.

Jesse Lacy and Absoleme Steagall both moved from Anson Co. NC to Perry Co. TN between 1810 and 1820. Based on proximity and age, I am attaching Nancy Stegall as a daughter of Absoleme while I continue my research.
