Robert Brashier, III, The Improvident

When Mary Brashear-Sterling died about 1666, Robert Brasseur/Brashear III, eldest son of Benjamin and Mary Brasseur/Brashear, and grandson of Robert Brasseur, the Huguenot, was left as the head of the clan, though he was still under twenty-one, married, and the father of one child (Benjamin). He also probably took over the care of his seven younger brothers and sisters, since Thomas Sterling wasn't showing any concern. This Robert Brashear was born in Nansemond County, Virginia, 1646, and his will was probated in 1712, in Prince George's County, Maryland.

We do not know who Robert's first wife was, but she was mother of the children, for he didn't marry his second wife, Alice, widow of Thomas Jackson, until 1679, when she renounced her right to administer the estate of her deceased husband, Thomas Jackson. All of Robert's children were born before this. Some researchers have thought Alice was possibly a daughter of Thomas Sprigg, but the Sprigg genealogy does not document an Alice at this time. Nor does the fairly detailed will of Thomas Sprigg.
