Shared note
|
"Soon after settling down at Wayland Springs, an event took place that was to make David wonder at what kind of a woman he had taken as a wife. He returned home one day to find his bride, not much bigger than his fist, at work on the kitchen floor butchering a 600 pound bear she had stunned. She had baked two chess pies and placed them on the table to cool. She then went to the spring. Upon her return, she found a huge black bear eating one of her pies. No problem - she took an iron skillet and bashed his skull in. A woman with even a frying pan is a dangerous thing." They tell many tales about David Adkisson, among them being that he cut a full set of teeth about his 80th year. He was a very strict father with his daughters; and as a result all of them eloped. About this he used to remark with a twinkle, "That's a sure way to marry them off."
In the 1850 census, Joe Lindsey, age 17, is living in the David Adkisson household. |
