Shared note
|
Fred A. Butler Sr. was born at St. Francis, Arkansas on 17 June 1898. He was one of four children born to Noah A. Butler and Anne B. (Jones) Butler. Josie A. (Carey) Butler was born at Marmaduke, Arkansas on 20 February 1907. Fred was living near Monette. Arkansas at this time. The Carey's lived in Senath a short time and then moved to Sikeston, Missouri in 1922. They moved in with Zelmer C. Butler for a brief period until they found their own place. Fred and Josie both had a Sikeston address when they married on 17 November 1923 at New Madrid, Missouri. Fred had been married previously to Fannie (Allen) Butler. One child (girl) was born to this union and she died at birth or in infancy. Their first born child, Fred A. Jr, was born while they lived at a Matthews, Missouri mailing address. It was probably south of Sikeston near the Matthews, Missouri turnoff which is in New Madrid county. Their second born, Sherman E., was born at Sikeston, Missouri where they lived approximately one mile west of town and ran a small dairy farm in Scott county. Prior to They rented a farm at the Big Ridge location from the Whiffan Estate and the overseer was Herschel Tyre. Walter Bronson and Z. C. Butler also rented from the Whiffan Estate. Fred Sr. and Josie bought a forty acre farm one-half mile East of Dexter, Missouri (Highway 60) in 1942. They also rented additional property here from the McGaughey family. They sold this property in 1954 and bought a eighty acre farm five miles West of Bloomfield, Missouri on Highway J. They still had this farm when Fred Sr. died on 31 January 1973 at Mt. Vernon, Missouri. Josie Butler retained this farm until February 1990. She lived with Sherman and Jean Butler at Poplar Bluff, Missouri for a year or so prior to February, 1990. Herschel L. Butler became her guardian about this time and she moved to Belleville, Illinois. She lived at Rosewood Health Care Center in Belleville, Illinois until her death on 27 July, 1995. |
