Shared note
|
In the 1900 census, Sam Humphry, age 42, boarder and Anna Dukes, age 11, orphan are living in the Noah Butler household. It is unclear if Noah was legally married to his niece Flora Butler but they were "run out of Missouri" for living together. They traveled in a covered wagon to an Indian Reservation near Fort Sill, Oklahoma, around 1912. They stayed there a year or two and then started back toward Senath, Dunklin Co. MO. On the way back from Oklahoma, Flora disappeared. Everyone thought Noah had killed Flora and their child. It was learned years later that she had run away from Noah taking the baby with her. Flora was later located in Springfield, Missouri along with her child. She was working at the bus station in Springfield, Missouri. Flora and the child disappeared and were never heard from again. During the time Noah and Flora were gone, many family members in Arkansas and Missouri were angry and the often-discussed hunting Noah down and dealing out their own brand of "Bootheel Justice". Noah died in Senath, Missouri shortly after returning alone from the Indian Reservation. Source: Gary D. Butler research. |
