Shared note

"The "Uncle Billy White" home is at least one of the oldest here. Made by the joining of two rooms ("houses") together in the 1880's. The component parts were each built long before, likely before the Civil War. Uncle Billy and his wife, the former Amanda Ellen Davenport reared their family in this home. It later fell into the hands of a son, the late Jess White, whose widow, Mrs. Essie White, now (1977) resides there." From the History of Scotts Hill, Tennessee by Gordon H. Turner, Sr. (Carter Printing Company, Southhaven, Mississippi, 1977. (pp. 61)

"White, William A. (The Lexington Progress, September 21, 1945) William A. White, a retired blacksmith, and one of the oldest men in or around Scotts Hill, died September 5th, 1945, at the age of 89 years. He is survived by three children, Mrs. Dora Hanson of Powell, Wyoming; Jesse F. White of Scotts Hill; and Walter S. White of Atlanta, Georgia, and one brother, Charlie White, of Scotts Hill. His wife, Amanda Davenport White, preceded him to the grave several years ago. "Uncle Bill," as he was called, will be sadly missed at home and in the town where he spent a part of every day talking with his friends. Revs. D. A. Bishop, L. J. Thompson and Coy C. Johnson conducted the service. Burial was made in Holmes Cemetery at Scotts Hill. "
