REV. R.C. MAYS

Rev. R. C. Mays, 83 of Clarksville, passed from this life on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Spring Meadows Health Care Center. He was founder and pastor of Apostolic Faith Tabernacle, Clarksville, for 40 years. Rev. Mays was born August 6, 1927 in Decatur County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Clarence Mays and Bertha Magnolia Lancaster of Parsons, two sisters, Mable Mays and Evelyn Reeves; three brothers, Dewey, Royce, and Lloyd Mays. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Doris. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 27, 2011. Also survived by one brother, Leroy (Betty ) Mays of Nashville; four children, Charolyn (Jack) Batson, Nashville; Michael (Debbie) Mays, Lexington; Loren (Connie) Mays, Clarksville; Marilyn (Marty) Roberts, McComb, MS; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is a 1946 graduate of Parsons High School in Decatur County. He received his Masters of Theology degree from International University of Biblical Studies, Parkersburg, WV. Rev. Mays pastured several churches including Darden Pentecostal Church, Darden, Iron Hill Pentecostal Church, Parsons, and founder of Calvary Tabernacle, which is now New Life Apostolic Church, Nashville. He served as TN district superintendent for the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ organization for approximately 20 years. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 30 at the church with the Rev. Bobby Ritchey officiating. Visitation will continue at 3:00-4:30p.m. at The Pentecostal Church of Darden, TN. Burial will follow at Darden Cemetery. Arrangements by Cheatham County Funeral Home.
