Marie Goff Adams

Funeral services for Marie Goff Adams, 78, will be October 29th at 1:00 PM at Pafford Funeral Home in Lexington with burial to follow at Lexington City Cemetery.

Mrs. Adams, a retired English teacher and Guidance Counselor, died in her sleep Sunday, October 26, 2003.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William McKinley Goff and Noraine Walker Goff and grandson, Robert Jeffrey Adams (October 25, 1994).

She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, James William Adams; son James William Adams, Jr.; son Jeffrey Goff Adams and wife Karis, along with granddaughter, Jordan Elisabeth Adams; brother Frank Goff and wife, Nell and sister Virginia Butler. Other survivors include nephews Ralph Butler (Judy) and Tommy Butler.

Mrs. Adams attended Sullins College (Virginia) and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Kentucky (Louisville) in 1947. She did graduate work at Peabody College (Nashville) and earned her Masters Degree at Middle Tennessee State University in 1969. She also attended Memphis State University where she earned her Certificate of Guidance.

An inspiration to all whom she met, Marie Adams was a venerable icon at Jackson Central-Merry High School, where she taught English and later served as a Guidance Counselor. She guided a diverse group of students to adulthood and along a number of career paths. She served the Jackson education system for twenty-five years, retiring in 1987.

She was an avid gardener and belonged to various clubs including the Joseph E. Martin Shakespeare Circle, Garden Club, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and the Mutual Improvement Club. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Jackson.

She thoroughly enjoyed her life and will be missed by family and friends who are left to cherish her memory.

Visitation will be at Pafford Funeral Home, Lexington, Tennessee, at 11:00 AM on October 29, 2003.

Memorials may be made to Duke University Children's Hospital (Durham, North Carolina) or the American Heart Association.
