Lexington Progress April 22, 1932
J. M. [James M.] Montgomery of Sardis, an aged and honored citizen of that community, died last Friday, April 15, 1932, at the family home, where he had lived since the death [August 11, 1925] of his wife [Sarah Jane Allen] some years ago, with his son, Mr. James Montgomery and his family. He is also survived by another son, Paxton Montgomery, who lived in Lexington during the four years he was attending high school and who now teaches near Bargerton. His daughter, Mrs. [Bessie] Blankenship, lives in Saltillo and he has two living sisters.
Mr. Montgomery was the son of the late John Montgomery [and Elizabeth Parker Montgomery], was born September 18, 1868, and had lived such an honorable and exemplary life that one of his friends remarked that he had known him forty-five years and had never known any wrong of him.
Funeral services attended by a large number of friends were held Saturday by the Rev. Mr. Sandusky of Sardis, assisted by Mr. A. B. Abbington and Rev. T. N. Smith. He was buried at Shady Grove.
