Names as recorded by Druie Butler
Around 1920, four Butler ladies gathered for this photograph to be taken near their homes off the Decaturville to Yarbro's Landing Road. Mary and Druie were sisters; Velma and Pearl were sisters. These sister pairs come from different Butler families that lived near each other on the Decaturville to Yarbro's Landing Road. This road doesn't exist anymore but it originally ran through the Coalin's from Yarbro's Landing to Decaturville. Most likely, Largo Road follows the path of the original road. They lived on each side of Perry Butler who lived on Largo Road. Druie recorded the names on the back of the picture in the same handwriting that she used in a letter written in 1918.
It is not known how these two Butler families are related. The Butler family of Druie and Mary, came to Decatur Co. around 1870 and descendants continue to live there today. The Butler family of Velma and Pearl briefly appears in the 1920 census. They are descended from a Butler family that lived in Wayne Co. TN. No other record of this family has been found in Decatur Co. Please contact me if you can assist in identifying the Butler line of Velma and Pearl.
