James M. and Patrick Henry Butler were both sons of Christopher Columbus Butler and Mahala Cole Butler. James was the oldest and was born in Georgia before the family moved to Alabama. Patrick was born after Christopher and Mahala moved to Shelby County Alabama. Around 1830, the family moved to Coosa County Alabama.
Following, Christopher’s death in the 1850’s, Mahala moved to Fayette County Alabama where she lived with her daughter, Mary Ann Daniel. Patrick lived next door with James living about seven miles away in adjoining Walker County.
James received a land patent in Walker County in 1858. In 1860, He sold 160 acres to Noah Parris including the land he had acquired from John Cargile. James along with his wife Amanda and their children moved to Tuscumbia in what is now Colbert County Alabama. Their youngest twin children were born in Tuscumbia in January of 1862.
By 1871, James and Amanda and part of their children had moved to Decatur County Tennessee near Point Pleasant. Columbus, Austin and Patrick were working a mortgaged cotton crop.
Patrick settled near Cypress Inn in Wayne County Tennessee.
My research of the Butler family has concentrated on the descendants of James M. Butler and Patrick Henry Butler
